Research Infographic
Tools: Canva
Time: 1 week
Client: Osteopathic Medical School
Challenge:
Students are commonly uncertain about what types of research opportunities are available to them at the medical school. Primary investigators, whom are typically professors at the medical school or deans at their year 3 or year 4 placements, are the ones that disseminate specific opportunities to students. However, they requested that the Office of Research provide a guide for students to understand the cognitive breakdown of research.
Solution:
Broad understanding is needed in this case. Considering that most medical students are already short on time, I chose to create an infographic that would provide needed information that could then lead to other infographics or deliverables more specifically tailored to individual student interest.
Result:
The success of this infographic could be measured by observing two groups of students: one group that received this information and other group that did not. After a given time period, one could ask both sets of students to explain in writing their understanding of the different types of research what is involved in each. Students with the infographic should have a better understanding between the difference between "true" research and scholarly activities. In addition, they should demonstrate comprehension of the distinction between the types of academic work they will be involved in along with the first required documentation to begin each given type of work.
